A 27-year-old woman presents to the emergency department 20 hours after her boss sexually assaulted her with vaginal and anal penetration without a condom. She is tearful, takes no medications, has no allergies, and is not using contraception. Her last menstrual period was 2 weeks ago and her BMI is 33 kg/m². She has documented non-immunity to hepatitis B from previous serology, is unsure whether she wants to involve the police, and declines intrauterine device insertion. Examination shows no major injuries. A urine pregnancy test is negative, baseline blood work (HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis, CBC, electrolytes, liver enzymes) has been drawn, and ceftriaxone IM and azithromycin PO have already been given for bacterial STI prophylaxis.
