Case 1 of 3Musculoskeletal and RheumatologicSoft tissue pain (e.g., plantar fasciitis)

A 45-year-old who works as a bank teller presents with pain in the heel of her right foot. The pain is exacerbated when she walks or stands for long periods of time. The pain is usually worse when she gets up in the morning, and when she starts to walk after sitting for some time. She is having difficulty working as she is unable to stand for her long shifts. On examination there is point tenderness over the plantar surface of the heel, at the medial calcaneal tuberosity (the origin of the plantar fascia).
