Case 1 of 10DermatologicAlopecia
A 24-year-old man presents with a 2-year history of gradual hair thinning at the temples and crown. His father became bald in his early 40s. He is otherwise healthy, takes no medications and has no allergies. On examination, the scalp skin appears normal, with no erythema, scale or scarring, no broken hairs and a negative hair pull test. Hairs at the vertex are finer and shorter than those at the occiput. He wishes to start with a topical treatment and would like to avoid oral medications for now.
