A 28-year-old woman comes to your clinic as a new patient. She has had fatigue, diffuse abdominal discomfort, headaches and joint pain for 8 months and has seen three family physicians in the past year. Investigations have been repeatedly normal, including CBC, TSH, CRP, celiac serology, abdominal ultrasound, CT of the abdomen and MRI of the head. She spends hours each day researching her symptoms, has missed work on 6 days in the past month and is requesting another CT scan. She also reports low mood, constant worry and poor sleep, and denies suicidal ideation. She takes no medications and has no known allergies. Examination is normal, there are no red flag features, and her previous physician has already provided reassurance and counselling.
